The war in Ukraine deeply impacts every aspect of society. Nations, organisations and individuals all over the world are supporting the people of Ukraine with immediate needs through countless initiatives. These important initiatives are focusing on food, medicine, shelter and other primary needs. With MUSIC FOR UKRAINE we are focusing on the longer term: Help support and rebuild Ukraine's cultural infrastructure, focusing on music for Ukraine's children and youth. Our first aim is modest: To raise €10,000.
With your donation, we will support initiatives that bring music into the lives of young Ukrainians who had to seek refuge abroad. Think of funding music lessons, supplying instruments and equipment.
Of course, we all hope this war ends soon, and once it does, we are eager to contribute to re-building Ukraine's music education and support initiatives that bring back music into the lives of Ukraine's young generation.

RUSLANA, one of Ukraine's most well-known pop stars, winner of the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest, former MP and one of the top-10 most influential women of 2013 according to Forbes is AMBASSADOR for Music For Ukraine: "Music is life. Once this terrible war is over, it is crucial to help our children and youth pick up their instruments again and come together to play music." In support of the people of Ukraine, appealing to the world, Ruslana recorded the powerful song I'm Alive.
VICTORIA ROMANOVA, Head of the Office of the First Lady of Ukraine, Mrs. Olena Zelenska: "Our music industry will need a lot of support, and our youth will need all the help they can get to support their talent."
Music For Ukraine was set up by SIETSE BAKKER, who was Executive Producer of the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest*, which took place in Rotterdam, the Netherlands: "Ukraine has a rich musical heritage and a buzzing music industry, which deserves protection and care. With this initiative, we want to support music education for Ukraine's young generation, which is the cradle of the country's future musical talent."

Why is music so important? Shouldn't priority be given to primary needs like food, medicine and shelter?
There are countless initiatives to address primary needs of the Ukrainian people. However, we want to look beyond these needs, as music provides comfort and people's ability to express their talent contributes to their sense of dignity. According to Juliet Hess, Associate Professor of Music Education at the Michigan State University College of Music, music even helps to work through traumatic experiences.

Where does the money go, concretely?
Purchase and shipping of instruments, music equipment and related materials to organised refugee locations in Europe (TBD).
Depending on the amount raised, we may also fund music-related activities aimed at Ukrainian children and youth.
How will you secure accountability?
We will regularly report how funds are being spent. After all funds have been allocated, a full overview of expenses including receipts/invoices will be published.
